I’ve been getting so frustrated lately because I just can’t seem to use my hair products correctly; I mean, no matter what I do my hair always seems heavy, weighed-down, kind of greasy and yuck. I really want the kind of volume someone like Jennifer Lopez seems to effortlessly achieve… So I’ve done a bit of a run-around the market and found some professional hairstyling tips.

Check them out and see what you think.
1. No matter what the product (shampoo, conditioner, mousse)

Use the right one for your hair type. So don’t go raiding your sister’s sticky left overs! Always ask your hairstylist for advice and get the good stuff for your hair instead.

2. All hair products leave a residue on the hair

So just like the way you detox your body after a night on the wine use a detox shampoo for your locks.

3. Don’t hold your hairspray too close or it’ll coat your hair thickly and you’ll risk looking like a crazy big helmet-head.

About 9 inches distance is fine.

4. You only need a small amount of shampoo, especially if you’re using a professional product (because they’re generally richer).

A dollop of about 1 inch in diameter is more than enough.

5.The key to applying your conditioner is to distribute it evenly from mid-lengths to ends.

A wide-toothed comb is the ideal tool for this process. (Keep one in the shower).

6. Heat protection spray is essential if you use heated styling products like hair straighteners, but don’t use too much!

Divide your hair into a few areas and just pump a couple of sprays on each area.

7. “Less is more” is the rule of thumb with the kinds of products that aim to add texture and shine (molding cream, clay, wax etc.).

Start with a little, say about the size of a quarter, warm with your hair dryer and add more as needed.

8. Rinse, rinse, rinse! You’d be surprised how dull, weighed-down hair is often the result of simply not rinsing out your shampoo and conditioner well enough.

Spend less time daydreaming (like me) and rinse those locks thoroughly.

9. Get your mousse right. I remember seeing my mum piling it so high in her hand each morning it looked like fairy floss. That’s crazy!!

If you have medium length hair you only need about a golf ball amount.

10. Say no to that extra bottle of wine on the weekend. Put the money towards decent hair products instead.

and save the cheap stuff for high school kids

Take care of yourself until next time, MJ signing off!

Brown hues
We saw a lot of makeup done in shades ...

Brown hues

We saw a lot of makeup done in shades and hues of brown on the ramp this season, and it looked great! Beige shimmery eyeshade with brown eyeliner and slight blush-on is a great day look. Brown tends to soften up your face, especially if your skin tone ranges from fair to wheat-ish. Don’t overdo the matte look on the lips, even though it has been seen on the ramps, but be very careful with matte lipsticks because it can also make you look caked up and artificial, but if it’s done well, it’s the perfect look for the winters.

A colorful chunky scarf

Wrap a little color around your neck, keep warm and do it fashionably with a bright scarf to bring some color to the usually neutral colored winter wardrobe. I’m mentioning ‘chunky’ here, because oversized, long ones are definitely ‘in’ this winter, so if you’re going for a bright color, let it grow a little wild too ;)

Untamed mane

This season is definitely not for the goodie-two shoes because it’s all about letting your hair grow long so you can leave them open. You don’t even have to straighten them like a pin, juts leave them if you have natural waves, or use some mousse to create slight beach waves in your hair. Tousled and untamed but definitely not ‘messy’ is the look you would want to sport in winter ’09-’10. Even if you want to make a braid or tie it up, leave some tendrils of waves around your face and just tie loosely.

Suede Boots

Suede boots are most important accessory for winters, especially since skinny jeans are still in. They look gorgeous with skinny jeans or even with a skirt, dress. Expensive, but they can be worn with almost everything, casual or even semi-formal, especially since thigh-high boots are all the rage this winter, you can wear them with your basic black dress.

Friends, Chitter-chatter and a Hot Cup of coffee

Now of course you need a place to flaunt your winter wardrobe. I’d suggest you choose your favorite coffee spot in the city, the one with the perfect coffee and that puts on your favorite kind of music. Soft rock with a warm brownie does the trick for me, and if you have company then that’s would do for a perfect winter evening.

With sun right on top of our heads, melting us ...

With sun right on top of our heads, melting us away, it becomes so difficult to manage even a presentable look, aside from looking trendy and stylish. Nevertheless, the season’s latest new trends would sure vent off part of this heated agony, surely to make you feel light, bouncy, yet gorgeous and so chic.

If ‘jeans’ in on your mind in this scorching heat, then you definitely need a quick how-to lesson on dress-up according to seasons and needs! In this murderous heat, it is impossible to wear jeans and even bear the thought of wearing it or someone wearing it, equally. This season invites eco-friendly fabrics and appropriate cuts and styles. We suggest cotton pants, capris, khakis and Bermudas will work wonders for you to feel airy and breezy. Actually, drop the word ‘suggest’, replace it with ‘strongly recommend’, as this is what the season calls for!

Body-hugging T-shirts, zips and darts, high collars, flashy boots is so passé and a definite ‘NO’. For all you ladies, this season calls for decent bows and chicy ruffles, crumpled fabrics and cutouts and up-dos is worth a shot. For the chaps, it’s three C’s – color, comfort and class with a perfect rough and smooth poise this summers. Vests are back on the streets; wear them on a T-shirt or a formal shirt with sleeves rolled up fashionably till the elbows. Silk, jersey whatever it may be, but, denims are forbidden! Wide, baggy pants will go with any style you want to choose for yourself – it always looks ‘in’!

Attention Men! If you didn’t know it before, now you would! Plunging necklines is the new fashion in town extensively seen in T-shirts, dress shirts, and even kurtas. By plunging we don’t mean a deep plunge ‘bearing’ the unbearable. Plunges work well for those who don’t remind us of ‘our last visit to the zoo’. That hint was enough to see beyond.

Girls, think chic, revamp yourselves! This season calls for frills and knee-length frocks in lawns and chiffons. Bright pastels colors with flowery patterns, funky rainbow accessories, less make up with stylish footwear in dazzling colors is a definite ‘YES YES’. This season’s colors include lime yellow, orange and deep purple. Stay away from body hugging clothes if you want to feel breezy and light. Eye-liners and bronzers are so outmoded and archaic for today’s fashion scene. This season is all about rosy blush and colorful eyelids using vibrant shades of blues, greens and purples.

A little bit of this, and a little bit of that, and you are all good to survive the hot summers looking cool!

Happy summers everyone!

Either it’s the scorching summer time or the snow-white winter, ...

Either it’s the scorching summer time or the snow-white winter, curly hairstyle is the evernew and evergreen coiffure for a woman to carry simply anywhere and everywhere. But curls, waves and frizz have their own special importance during the summer time. It makes you look cool, funky, trendy and elegant with a touch of relaxed n chilled up air around you. Curly hair are special and need the same special attention. They have a different texture and structure and similarly have different requirements as compared to other hair types. Just a careful choice of haircut and there you have it, a healthy, versatile and manageable hairstyle.

The curls, waves, tangles and frizzes not only add life and volume to your hair but brings the radiant sexy look in you. Some naive ladies would blame their curls for not giving them a tidy smooth look. But the curls are very forgiving. They flatter the face of the ladies who are tired of having them till they start to fall in love with them.

Curly hair create a full moon look only with a good hairstyle to go with them. So ladies just put away all the combs, brushes and hairstyling tools this summer because if you have the curly hair, nothing can stop you from being irresistibly gorgeous. After all, curls are not just hair, it’s a complete lifestyle!
